Of course there have been about 20 million words already written about this, but even so: I met him 10 years ago or so. I bought a tie and a tie-tack from the National Wild Turkey Federation just for the occasion, because that was something he and I shared in common. He was a hugely entertaining speaker–I suppose partly because he simply said true things, without a lot of pretense or nonsensical rationalizations that are characteristic of “sophisticated” people. And he was a great friend of the Second Amendment, and limited government generally. I imagine he would have voted in my favor in my current lawsuit, but I will never find out.
I understand he leaves behind 28 grandchildren. I suppose it is too much to hope that they will turn out like he did, but I’ll hope it anyway.
